Epidural Steroid Injections
The injected steroid relieves inflammation and swelling to take pressure off of nerves and other soft tissue. The decreased pressure helps to relieve pain.
Epidural steroid injection is often used for pain that radiates from the lower spine to the hips or legs caused by a herniated disc or lumbar spinal stenosis. It can also help arm pain radiating from the neck. Some patients may need to repeat the procedure up to three times for full benefits. Many patients experience significant relief from one injection.
